Friend of mine has one. Scary fast, but handles and feels like a kit car.

It's a Noble M12. The early Nobles had 2.5 Duratec engines, by the end they were 3.0 with turbos and sounded absolutely glorious!

They're building them now with a Volvo V8 in the trunk. And turbos.

They're so simple, small, and fantastic! And they sound simply glorious! I've sat in a few and wish I could afford to have one. I understand that they're fragile, too, which makes me want one even more (before they're all destroyed).

The TT V8 are Nobel 600's. If I remember it's M12 -> M400 -> M600. The 12 was a was a 2.5, the M400 is a TT Ford 3.0L.

I'll never forget the time one of these rolled up next to me at a stoplight. It was so low, so unassuming, so random. I did at least a triple take. The light changed, it took a left, and I haven't seen one since. Sighhhh...

It took a left, so they never really got on it, but I must have heard it because it got my attention!

Now, was that an SHO or just a plain old Vulcan/Duratec? Because the SHO V6 is lovely.

Does this count? Duratec V6 + Duratec V6 = Aston Martin V12?

It was a Duratec, and the original ones without the direct acting mechanical bucket heads. In my opinion, a much better engine than the SHO... and it should be, what with an extra decade of technology!

And remember, the Duratec isn't related in any way to the Vulcan. It literally shares no engineering. Hell, the SHO has much more in common with the Vulcan than with the similar-on-paper Duratec! Vulcan was born at Ford North America in the early 80s and Duratec was born at Ford of Europe about 10 years later. Up until very recently, those were essentially two separate companies that happened to both have Henry's name on them. SHO, on the other hand, was born as a cylinder-head-only program on the Vulcan bottom end.

I know, I was in a panic to find a pic of a Noble with the right engine and color... but really, to me they're all about the same!

That's a pretty sweet car to have! And they're getting rare these days! I always loved the first gen SHO, too. We've had several in the family over the years and they were always a hoot... when the transmissions weren't committing seppuku!

I have heard the horror stories about the transaxles. Mine already had an aftermarket diff in it. Used to be a race car I think. Its got the black leather interior too. Once I'm done the brakes, itll hit the road.

That sounds sweet! Yeah, everything I know about the SHO trans is second hand so it may be a complete fabrication, but I've been told that it started life as a light-duty box for Escorts and Tempos that was pressed into duty in the SHO. If that's true, it's certainly easy to see why they might be fragile! Especially given how these cars are typically drive. SHOs rarely lead easy lives! Ours suffered synchro problems, then one broke the case. No idea how... we just threw it away and got another!

Wow, the one I always hear about is a pin in the diff. The quick fix for that is apparently welding the pin in place.

Once this car bites the dust, ill tear it apart and put the engine in my Capri like i originally planned.
